I have not started to scan my negatives yet but have focused on my collection of mostly Kodachrome slides. I am pleased with the ease of use and the Digital ICE feature even though it slows the scanning process somewhat. Others said I should use the highest possible resolution but 3200 seems to provide plenty of resolution and creates files around 2mb. A slide takes around 5 minutes to scan.
I found the ICE feature roughens high contrast sharp edges such as black hair or shadows against a white background. It also does too much correction in shrubbery and rough textured areas. I will probably rescan some of those and use software to edit out the tiny dust spots. I didn't see much benefit using the other dust removal feature built into the Epson software. Contrary to what some said I found the Digital ICE works fine with Kodachrome slides.
After installing the Adobe Photoshop Elements I had some computer issues. For my purposes I prefer the Picasa software.
In summary I recommend this scanner for film scanning if you have a film collection to digitize and have the time to scan it yourself.
