Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Epson Perfection 4490 Photo Scanner
Customer Review: Not too bad a value. Summary: 3 Stars
Epson Perfection 4490 Photo ScannerI bought this scanner as a second scanner - primarily for the ability to scan photo negatives. It does work quite well for this purpose. It is a little on the "cheaply made" side, but all in all it meets my current needs.
Customer Review: not so thrilled Summary: 3 Stars
I paid more money for this particular scanner as it claimed to do slides...it doesnt..all i get is a black screen.
directions aren't all that clear and i have not been satisfied.
This is a feature laden printer for the money. The resolution is excellent and it supports all different kinds of scanning jobs. I use it for copying documents, software cd disk faces for cd copying etc. I have one at work with a document feeder which works great. The home model comes without the document feeder which is an optional accessory.
The scanner purchase went very smooth and the scanner arrived promptly.
Customer Review: nice scanner for the price Summary: 4 Stars
i got this scanner to scan my medium format negatives. the quality is great when u consider the price. by scanning my own film, it pretty much pays for itself. the scanner looks very sturdy and well built. the only negative w the scanner is customer service. epson has their customer service in india. they werent much help. they finally transfer to a US service rep when they couldnt help me even w a simple question. the US rep took 20 sec to resolve my issue, whereas the india reps took 45 minutes of my time. other then that. great scanner.
Customer Review: Flimsy - for single sheets only Summary: 2 Stars
The scans are good, yes. But the glass is adhered with double-stick TAPE. Three tiny tabs on one side were clearly meant to align the glass during assembly -- the glass is ONLY affixed to the thin plastic frame by TAPE. If you try to put anything heavier than a newspaper on it or, God forbid, try to put a book on there and have to press down a little to flatten the binding, the glass WILL PRY LOOSE. And DON'T PRESS DOWN WHEN YOU CLEAN THE GLASS! I have never seen such an underbuilt scanner.
